SECTION1IWATER SOFTENER START UPCare is taken at the factory to keep your water soft ener clean and sanitary. Materials used to make the softener will not infect or contaminate your water supply, and will not cause bacteria to form or grow. However, during shipping, storage, installing and operating, bacteria could get into the softener. For this reason, sanitizing as follows is suggested® when installing. The first time you sanitize your softener, be sure to do all steps in the installation manual, and on pages 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4 of this manual first. Note: Be certain the bypass valve is pulled out to 'service' position.Lift the salt hole cover and use a pail to fill the salt storage tank with up to 3 gallons of water.Remove the brinewell cover (FIG. 3) and pour about 3/4 ounce, or 1 to 2 tablespoons, of com mon 5.25%, imscented, household bleach (Clo- rox, Linco, BoPeep, White Sail, Eagle, etc.) in the softener brinewell. This first recharge does several things. It draws the bleach into and through the softener to sanitize it. It fills the salt tank to the water level needed.

It gets all the air out of the resin tank. Judicial consent. It prepares the resin bed (see page 2-4) for ser vice and flushes residual chlorine from the soften er.Notes: This recharge takes about 2-1 /2 or 2- 3/4 hours, de pending on the salt type setting (page 1-4).You can sanitize the softener ivith or without salt in the storage tank.FIG. 3' Recommended by the Water Quality Association. A motor fault or a bad wiring harness causes the e1 error code. A simple test is to unplug the softener for 30 seconds. Plug it back in and listen. If you here a clicking or snapping noise, the motor has failed. This is the most common. If this is the case, I recommend that the seal kit and the rotor also be replaced with the motor.

When the seals or the rotor are worn out, it will cause binding and cause the motor to fail. To replace the parts put the softener in bypass so there is no water going to the unit. Remove the electronics and set them aside so they do not get wet. Next remove the 2 screws in the motor and the 5/16 headed screws that hold the valve body together. Now remove all of the seals in the body. The top portion of the body has two seals that go around the rotor shaft. Sometimes the top seal sticks inside of the body and does not come out with the rotor.

Use the grease that comes with the seals to lube them as you put them back in. Now reassemble the softener in the reverse order. Here is a web site to help in the diagnostics of your water softener.Kenmore WaterIf any parts are needed they can be ordered from this link.Sears Parts DirectIf you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. I don't hear clicking or a snapping noise. The motor is audible and sounds like it is turning the Cam and Gear. Every 15 seconds, you can hear the water run and then it stops, but the motor continues to run. On the display, 'Serv' and 'Recharge' blink simultaneously. Do you think it is still the motor?

In the last 12 months, I've changed the switch twice and it fixed the problem. This time it didn't work. I also changed out the wiring harness and motor but still didn't fix the problem. If I need a rotor and seal kit, I see the part number for the rotor & disc is 7185500.
