Pink Floyd Bootleg

It'san audience recording, but of such good quality that this show has beenbootlegged many times under many different titles: 'Oakland Coliseum,'Animal Instincts,' 'Plays the Animals,' ‘Mr. Pig,’ and 'In The Flesh'are among the most popular and common boots. I’m including artwork foreach of these so you can use what you like – it’s all from the sameshow. My original CD copy was “Plays the Animals,” but last year I wasgiven “Animal Instincts rev B,” and its sound is definitely superior(thanks to ), which is the source for this particular posting.

A great recording of a great concert. The band seems to be having a lot of fun (something I assume was rareduring the In The Flesh Tour). Roger and Dave laugh hysterically duringthe first verse of 'Have a Cigar.' Roger Waters shows some real venomin 'Pigs,' and 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts VI-IX' features someoutstanding jamming which cannot be heard on the original studiorecording. The overall set list is a winner too, including 'Eugene' asthe final encore.

David Gilmour does seem to get a little annoyed atthe crowd before 'Us and Them' - he tells the crowd 'This one's got aquiet beginning.' “Pigs” is much more powerful (and heavier) than thestudio cut, with lots of extended jamming added as well. There is a cutin “Shine On,” probably due to a tape flip. There are a couple of loudBOOMS during WYWH, like the microphone was dropped, so be aware ofthat.

Otherwise, a great, full Animals and Wish You Were Here set, withDark Side of The Moon encores. Anonymoussaid.I was at this show. The 'Boom' were firecrackers lit by an audience member in an exit tunnel at mid arena. In the original configuration of the arena there was a tunnel that led to a convention hall and then continued to the stadium next door. Someone lit firecrackers (most likely larger firework like cherry bombs or M80's) in that corridor making it drown out the music. That is also what David was referring too. A note on Eugene.

There was about 10 to 15 minutes before the band came back out. The house lights were up and security was trying to clear the arena. The stage crew had shut down the stage and started to pull a tarp over the equipment for the next nights performance when the band walked out on stage. Roger plugged a mic in. All the equipment had turned on and the tarp had to be removed from Nicks' kit. I believe there is a reference in Nicks' book that this was the last Pink Floyd show that all member's enjoyed playing together on stage.

It is the greatest show that I attended. This recording is one of best, definitely of this show.

I have had five versions over the past 35 years, this is my favorite. Anonymoussaid. It's amazing reading about this, because I was at this very show, with my sister.

Bootlegging

I remember it being at the Oakland Coliseum right after 'Animals' came out, and it was one of the 5 best concerts I have EVER been to, the others being The Who (Days on the Green, Oakland Coliseum, October 9 & 10, 1976 - I went both days!), Etta James in 1989 at the Oakland Auditorium, Buddy Guy at JJ's on the peninsula in the late 1980s (I have a picture of him giving me a hug after the show), and the Stones in Nice, France, July 1992. I still have the ticket stubs to these somewhere, with the exact dates attended. Regarding this Pink Floyd concert, I believe it when they said it was their favorite. It was flawless, and totally blew my mind at the time.
