Interesting sidelight just popped up.There is a recall on the Llama Model XI-A and B pistols, and the affected pistols should be sent to Stoeger Industries in Hackensack, NJ. Then on the 9mm models, it says 'Stoeger and Llama request'. So my previous information must have been wrong. Evidently Llama is still in business.

There is an 800 number to call for information or questions. 800-831-0722 or 201-440-2700 It was followed by half a page of serial numbers of recalled weapons. They were being recalled for firing pin problems on the.45's and disconnector problems on the 9mm's.WT.

I sold a nice Llama 9mm a few months ago. At $250 it sold immediately, probably would have brought more. I just did not like that slide rib and the smooth grips. While they are not true 1911s, a surprising percentage of Colt/clone parts will fit, some with minor fitting. However, the guns are accurate, reliable, and durable, so parts aren't much of an issue. I suspect that's why there is so little information on interchange - you seldom need parts.I realize this is contrary to the reputation of Llamas, but while quality was spotty at times on some models, Llama built thousands of high quality guns for most of the last century. I have 8 Llamas currently, and all are nice pistols. Rex,I completely agree.

I had a 9mm Llama years ago that was a great gun, and I have a.380 Minimax that's 'dead on' accurate and is very comfortable to shoot. I even had a.22LR '45 clone' once that was a nifty little pistol by Llama. I always found them reliable, and pretty easy to work with if they had problems. Usually just a bit of sanding, honing, etc.

And they went right back to working.I found them to be both durable and well built, and wouldn't have a problem getting another one. I'm still banging my head that I passed on the one I saw a couple of weeks back.WT.

Manufactured Under The Trade Name LlamaModel: VII Modelo ExtraSerial Number: 28187Year of Manufacture: 1932-1944 ((Because of the lack of proof marks, we suspect this pistol was made during the Spanish Civil War – rumor has it that lack of proof marks is because the guns were refinished after the war and imported to the US by Interarms, a CIA front at the time. However, this pistol has not been refinished. So, it was probably made between 1936 and 1939, and more probably between 1937 and 1939, after the Nationalists took control of the Eibar region of Spain).Caliber: 9mm x 23 Largo and.38 ACPAction Type: Single Action Semi-Auto with Removable MagazineMarkings: The left side of the slide is marked “GABILONDO Y CIA - ELGOIBAR (ESPANA) / CAL.

The magazine is in about Very Good Plus condition. Our Assessment: From “In 1931 Gabilondo Y Cia decided to do its part in revitalizing the reputation of the lagging Spanish firearms industry. To this end, they began making almost exact copies of the Colt/Browning M1911 design.

The name Llama (pronounced Yama) was chosen for this line of pistols to separate it from earlier production of 'Ruby style' pistols of WWI vintage. The Ruby pistols did not have the quality control they needed and as a result earned a very bad reputation for Spanish firearms and Gabilondo y Cia. The new Llama pistols were such faithful reproductions of the M1911 that some if not all parts were interchangeable with Colt/Browning M1911s. There were several variations on the design, one of which was the 'Extra', which later became known as the Model VII.

The designation 'Extra' was very simplistic: the barrel was 1/2' longer and the slide 3/8' longer.” This pistol is a Model Vii or Modelo Extra, with a 5 ½” barrel chambered in 9mmx23 Largo which will also chamber and fire.38 ACP. The pistol has its original finish with a crisp circled “GC” logo on the right side of the frame. As least one reference indicates that many Llama pistols were refinished after WII and their proof marks removed before being imported into the United States.

While this may be true, this pistol has not been refinished. We think the lack of proof markings is probably because the pistol was made during the Spanish Civil War in the 1937-1939 period after the Nationalists had taken control of the Eibar province. This pistol can be used for home protection and informal target shooting, but the price of ammo may limit your enthusiasm for doing a lot of target shooting unless you can find some brass and reload your own ammo.
